Trip for a Lifetime: Day 17 What’s going on?

With wisdom and understanding he made known to us the mystery of his will according to his good pleasure which he purposed in Christ. To be put in effect when the times reach their fulfillment, to bring unity to all things. In his plan it works out everything in conformity with the purpose of his will. Eph. 1:9-11

One of the ways I learned to make more sense out of what was taking place in my life was to ask three questions. The first question I ask is “What is Satan doing in this situation?” Second, I ask “What is God doing in this situation?” Third, I ask myself “How am I going to respond?” We all face trials or situations that we have no idea what is going on from a spiritual sense.

I don’t know about you, but there have been many times I was so out of tune in knowing what was going on from a spiritual stand point that I would react in a way that was doing nobody any good—including me. I should have been asking the three questions above before I did anything. They would have helped me to know the reason someone was acting the way they were. Why they were saying what they were saying or the reason I was responding the way I was. I have learned that there are so many spiritual implications to life’s trials not just on an individual level but on a world level.

In the case of this pandemic, there is so much going on from a spiritual perspective that we need to ask those three questions. On a side note, there is no way I can answer them in a short blog so I intend to give what I think are the general answers.

The first question “What is Satan up to?” One thing I know. That Satan does not like mankind. Man is made in God’s image. It doesn’t matter if they are saved or not saved, he does not like them. He wants to kill, steal, and destroy. I also know he is the ruler of this world. I know we live in a fallen world because of our sin. On this journey we are now on he wants us to fail. He wants to take us out. He want us to suffer. He wants to separate us from our Heavenly Father. These things bring him great pleasure.

When we ask the second question “What is God up to?” I know that God is Sovereign over all things. He does not fall asleep on the job. This pandemic did not catch him by surprise. He allowed this to happen for some reason. What is the reason? He is bringing unity to the body of Christ throughout the world. He wants those who have turned away to turn back to him. I know that what Satan meant for bad God will use for good (Romans 8:28). Every people group around the world is being shaken. I know that in my lifetime and recent history nothing has affected the world like this pandemic. The things we used to put before God (sports, money, jobs security, and even the way we do church, etc.) are being shaken. There is going to be a major shift throughout the world. I know that God does not want one person to perish (2 Peter 3:9). He wants the people who are called by his name to turn back to him (2 chronicles 7:14). I think we are on the verge of a world revival. I know whether we like it or not, we are on this bus together.

As for question three. You need to answer that one. How will you respond?
